Museum Lobby

In the lobby of the Museum of Northern BC visitors are met with the scent of cedar, welcoming staff, and the beauty of Northwest Coast architecture. The massive cedar posts and beams are set off by large works of glass art. From here you can enter the Museum and the Gift Shop, or visit the Prince Rupert Visitor Centre.

The museum’s thematic design elements of cedar and art glass are introduced here with a large art glass panel evoking the mighty Skeena River, by Vancouver glass artists Markian Olynyk and Brian Baxter. This is flanked by two sculptural works by Vancouver glass artist John Nutter. A large mask by Nisga’a artist Ron Telek offers a hint of the wonders of Northwest Coast art to be experienced in the museum.
